Barbara Windsor ‘nervous’ about EastEnders scenes
Actress Barbara Windsor says shes nervous about returning to EastEnders for a brief reprisal of her character Peggy Mitchell.
The last time the character was seen in the BBC One saga was back in 2010 when she walked out of Albert Square following a fire at her beloved Queen Vic pub. Now the 75-year old is making a return for one episode.
“I’ve got one episode and I’m looking forward to it. I’m very apprehensive and nervous because it’s been three years since I’ve done it. It’s important that I go back. That’s the reason I’m doing it – it’s relevant to the plot, let’s put it like that.” – Barbara Windor quoted on MSN Entertainment
While the exact details of why Peggy returns to Albert Square are being kept a well-guarded secret at the beeb it is generally believed it will be to do with a number of dramatic storylines crossing. On-screen son Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) is soon to be involved in a car crash leaving him fighting for his life, Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) is to be released from prison following her abduction of a baby while Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simons) plans to marry Alfie Moon (Shane Richie).
Co-star Perry Fenwick who plays baddie turned goodie Billy Mitchell says of Windsor’s guest spot on MSN Entertainment:
“We filmed the scenes two days ago, and there was a definite shift in the air, with the crew, the make-up people, everyone, it was like the Queen’s come back… She’s a legend.”
Barbara first appeared as Peggy in 1994, prior to the role she was best known for the saucy Carry On movie franchise.
