Whitechapel Ratings Remain Low

ITV-Whitechapel-Rupert-PenrGritty detective drama Whitechapel, starring Rupert Penry-Jones [pictured] and Phil Davis, lost over 500,000 viewers on Wednesday evening for ITV.

The fourth season of Whitechapel premiered last week with a low 3.7 million viewers and things didn’t pick up this week for the drama. The second episode saw ratings fall to 3 million viewers although a further 300,000 watched an hour later via ITV’s time-shift channel. If ratings continue to drop the future of Whitechapel, which also stars Steve Pemberton, looks bleak.

At 9pm on BBC One genealogical series Who Do You Think You Are?, featuring Sarah Millican, pulled in 4.3 million viewers. On BBC Two at 9pm Ian Hislop’s The Wipers Times had 2 million viewers.

Over on Channel 5 the latest evictions on Celebrity Big Brother saw 2 million viewers tune in at 9pm. At 10pm the gritty Australian drama Wentworth Prison – a re-imaged version of Reg Watson’s Prisoner Cell Block H – saw ratings fall to 950,000 viewers. The drama, starring Danielle Cormack and Kris McQuade, had 1.3 million viewers last week.
