Last Jimi Hendrix Interview to air on TeamRock Radio

TeamRock RadioIn a radio first, TeamRock Radio is to broadcast later today the very last interview that Jimi Hendrix gave, before his death. The audio will be transmitted during Nicky Horne’s Classic Rock Magazine Show from 6pm.

The half hour interview, recorded by music journalist, author, and press agent to Jimi Hendrix; Keith Altham, took place at The Cumberland Hotel on 11th September 1970, just days before he died and has never, to this day been aired on radio in its entirety.

Keith will join Nicky in the studio to talk about some of the private conversations that took place prior to the recording, including, discussing changing agents and returning to mentor and original manager Chas Chandler as well as what really happened when Hendrix was kidnapped and thrown into a cellar for three days in New York.

Jimi was a difficult man to interview …speaking barely above a whisper and his rambling replies often trailed off into space with ‘ecetera, ecetera, ecetera’ or ‘whatever as his long fingers fluttered to tired eyes, he had an unhealthy almost khaki complexion at this time.

He was not suicidal, just exhausted by excesses and travel. His shy diffident manner marked a waspish humour and there was often a sting in the tale so I picked up more than a few gems interviewing him over the years about his contemporaries and artistes he met in the U.K. – Keith Altham

During the interview Jimi talks about Eric Clapton and his desire to go and see him saying:

I’ve gotta go and see Eric Clapton and find out if he is as good as he thinks I am.

As well as joking about Scott Walker adding:

Sh*t that Scott Walker is prettier and sadder than Engelfluff Humperdinck, I just can’t wait for him to fall over on stage and graze his knee so I can kiss it better.

TeamRock Radio is available on national DAB digital radio, through Radio Player & TuneIn and at teamrockradio.com where the interview will be available on demand for seven days.
