TNT Axes King & Maxwell

TNT-GoldTNT has cancelled drama series King & Maxwell after just one season on-air.

The Summer series debuted in June and starred Jon Tenney and Rebecca Romijn as former secret service agents solving crimes as private detectives. Kings & Maxwell was created by NCIS: Los Angeles creator Shane Brennan and was based on the novels by David Baldacci.

Kings & Maxwell premiered to ratings of 3.5 million viewers with an average of 3.1 million viewers. While those ratings seem impressive, for a cable network, at first glance the drama did not manage to retain most of the viewers from its lead-in, The Closer spin-off series Major Crimes starring Mary McDonnell.

In August TNT renewed Major Crimes for a third series alongside Perception (starring Eric McCormack) and Rizzoli & Isles. The broadcaster also renewed the resurrected Dallas for a third season and sci-fi series Failing Skies for a fourth season.

However, the broadcaster axed police series Southland and medical drama Monday Mornings due to low ratings.
