EastEnders actress considered quitting

Linda Henry Shirley

Linda Henry has revealed that she almost quit EastEnders earlier this year.

The actress considered her future on the BBC One soap due to the infrequent appearances of her Walford alter-ego Shirley Carter.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Henry reveals that it was the appointment of new executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins that made her decide to stick with the soap.

“I had a very quiet year and was considering leaving, but I got a call to say Dominic Treadwell-Collins was taking over the show. He’s so exciting and passionate about EastEnders, and now everything is buzzing.” – Linda Henry

Shirley was introduced to EastEnders in 2006 with the character arriving in Walford to build bridges with her estranged children Carly (Kellie Shirley) and Deano (Matt Di Angelo). Subsequent storylines have included a rocky romance with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and the murder of her best friend Heather Trott (Cheryl Fergison).

The character is expected to feature prominently in the coming months with Treadwell-Collins taking the decision to build a family around her.

“It means a lot that Shirley is going to be a big part of the action.” – Linda Henry

EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8.00pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One, with repeat screenings on BBC Three. Viewers can also catch up online via BBC iPlayer.
