David Witts to leave EastEnders

EastEnders actor David Witts is leaving the BBC One soap, according to SoapSquawk.

The 22-year-old actor made his first appearance as Joey Branning in June 2012.

Joey came to Walford to keep an eye on his sister Alice (Jasmyn Banks) who was keen to forge a relationship with their estranged father Derek (Jamie Foreman).

His storylines have since revolved around his mistrust of Derek and his growing feelings for cousin Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa). Lauren and Joey entered a relationship which ended during Lauren’s descent into alcoholism.

Witts reportedly held a meeting with the soap’s bosses during which he decided it was the right time to leave.

Joey is expected to exit the soap at Christmas in a storyline connected to Michael Moon’s (Steve John Shepherd) upcoming murder, which is something his sister Alice will find herself embroiled in.

It was recently reported that Jasmyn Banks is bowing out from the role of Alice.

EastEnders, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on BBC One.

  • YES GOOD NEWS, Joey was always a pointless deadwood character, he is doing nothing at the moment,

  • His departure makes sense now that Alice is going and he’s not with Lauren anymore. Max and Dot haven’t shown much of an interest in him.

  • Cant understand a word he says so no loss and he has no family left on the show apart from max. As long as they hold on to jake wood i’m happy.
