Gemma Oaten has decided to leave Emmerdale having portrayed the role of Rachel Breckle since 2011.
The character will bow out on screen early next year following a “turbulent time”, according to Digital Spy.
The fiery younger sister of Ali Spencer (Kelli Hollis) Rachel struggles to control her temper and it has on occasion got her into trouble. However, the character’s biggest storyline centres on the paternity of her baby son Archie.
Rachel is currently in a relationship with Sam Dingle (James Hooton) but is keeping the true identity of Archie’s father from him.
Viewers know that Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) is the baby’s father following a drunken one night stand with Rachel but when the truth was almost uncovered Jai’s father Rishi (Bhasker Patel) stepped in and claimed he was the father.
Next week, Rachel finally admits the truth to Sam and it’s not long before Jai’s wife Charity (Emma Atkins) also finds out the secret. Charity is expected to be out for revenge following the revelation.
Details on how Rachel will leave the village are being kept under wraps.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV
