EastEnders return for Charlie Slater

The former Walford cabbie will be fleetingly seen in the soap again over the Christmas period.

Derek Martin is reprising his role of Charlie Slater who will visit his daughter Kat (Jessie Wallace) in an upcoming episode of EastEnders.

The character originally appeared between September 2000 and January 2011 when Charlie left the Square following the assumed death of his grandson Tommy. After Charlie had left Tommy unattended, Kat blamed him for what happened.

The cabbie, who largely existed to support other members of the Slater family’s storylines on the show, returned to the soap briefly when Tommy was discovered to be alive, having been taken by Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack). The episode saw Kat and Charlie reconcile their differences.

The Daily Star Sunday reports that Derek has already filmed his latest comeback scenes.

“There’s a special Kat storyline happening at Christmas and it wouldn’t have been the same if Charlie wasn’t a big part of it all.” – EastEnders source
