Gogglebox axes George Gilbey’s family

George Gilbey’s participation in Celebrity Big Brother means he and his family won’t appear in the fourth series of Gogglebox, it has been confirmed.

The Mirror reports that the McGarry family comprising of George, his mum Linda and her husband Pete have been axed from the show as having them on “wouldn’t work” in light of George’s new TV role.

“It’s all about money. They are pretty cash-strapped and so you can see why they would accept the offer to go on Big Brother. But we can’t have them in the new series of Gogglebox.” – Gogglebox producer Chantal Boyle

She added that the family were warned that they would forfeit their place on the show if George agreed to appear on the Channel 5 reality show but ”could not resist” the financial offer presented to them.

Meanwhile, the family have confirmed on Twitter that they will not be taking part in the next series, tweeting: “It is true that we won’t be on the next series of Gogglebox. We had a lovely time filming with them and wish the cast and crew lots of luck”

George is said to have pocketed £100,000 for his appearance on Celebrity Big Brother.
