BBC One has secured unprecedented access to Coral, one of Britain’s leading turf accountants for a new factual series.
The Bookies will take a revealing look at the customers and staff who keep an industry that serves eight million people each year afloat, capturing everything from the daily activity on the betting floor to the odd-setting wizardry behind the scenes.
Over the course of three episodes, the factual offering from Boundless will also find out how the industry is responding to issues of problem gambling and resistance from the public against new shops opening.
“We are very excited about this major commission for BBC One. Betting is something that millions of British people take part in, yet we know very little about the world and how it operates. The series will engage with the excitement, the characters and the issues from this major industry.” – Managing Director of Boundless, Patrick Holland
The Bookies was commissioned by Emma Willis, Head of Documentaries for BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Four.
