EastEnders‘ Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) is to be inflicted with serious burns after a fire is started at the home she shares with her family.

It was first reported last month that the Slater’s house will be torched by a mystery arsonist in one of the soap’s autumn storylines.

The Daily Star Sunday has now revealed that Kat will sustain life-changing injuries in the blaze and that Wallace will have to wear special effects make-up to accurately portray her character’s plight.

“It’s touch and go whether Kat survives. Her injuries are physical. She is badly burned and this will affect her for the rest of her life. Jessie will undergo special effects make-up so her injuries look as realistic as possible.” – EastEnders source

As well as having a major impact on Kat and those closest to her the fire is also expected to affect other residents of Albert Square.

Of the arsonist an insider previously told the Daily Star: “Everyone will be shocked when they discover who it is. The arsonist will have to live with the consequences of his or her actions for the rest of their life,”

Wallace has played the role of Kat in the BBC soap on and off since 2000.
