CBS has renewed its Summer drama series’ Under The Dome and Extant.

CBS announced earlier this week that both dramas had been re-commissioned for new seasons. The Stephen Kind inspired Under The Dome will be back for a third season next Summer on CBS will Steven Spielberg produced Extant will return for a second outing.

Under The Dome premiered on CBS in 2013 and was a ratings smash hit for the broadcaster; breaking ratings records and putting summer drama firmly back on the map. While it premiered to over 13 million viewers in 2013 the second season, which aired earlier this year, had more modest ratings.

However, when DVR figures are taken into account the dramas ratings rose considerably. Under The Dome stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Colin Ford and Britt Robertson.

The Halle Berry fronted mystery drama Extant wasn’t exactly the ratings hit that CBS were hoping for. The drama, which also starred Goran Visnjic and Pierce Gagnon, had a little bit of trouble with its ratings. A schedule change, by CBS, saw its ratings slip further. However, the drama has still been renewed for a second season.

TVLine reports that CBS has a deal in place with Amazon Prime, for both dramas, which help off-set the production costs. The deal means that Amazon Prime is the exclusive home to streamed episodes of both shows.
