Sky Axes Mr Sloane and Trying Again
Sky has axed comedies Mr Sloane and Trying Again according to reports.
The Radio Times reports the 1970s based Mr Sloane will not be returning to Sky Atlantic for a second series. The series starred Nick Frost and Olivia Coleman and aired on the network earlier this year.
The production company behind Mr Sloane made the announcement of its demise on Facebook where they claimed Sky had given them positive feedback regarding the series. A statement read “The thinking behind this decision is a bit baffling even to us, since Sky had been very supportive during the first series, and claims the show to have been a success for them by every measure. However, there is a new channel head at Sky who, it seems, has a new agenda for the channel that doesn’t include our pal, Sloaney.”
The Radio Times also confirms that Sky Living comedy Trying Again has also been axed. The eight-part comedy aired in the Spring on the channel and starred former EastEnders actress Jo Joyner alongside Chris Addison and Elizabeth Berrington. The comedy was written by Chris Addison and Simon Blackwell but didn’t take off with viewers.
In recent years Sky has increased its homegrown comedy and drama output with shows such as Mount Pleasant, Strike Back, Mad Dogs and The Tunnel. In the new year its highly anticipated new drama Fortitude will launch on Sky Atlantic. Fortitude will star Christopher Eccleston, Michael Gambon, Stanley Tucci, Jessica Raine and The Killing actress Sofie Grabol.
