Bewitched Revival Details Revealed

Bewitched

The planned revival of Bewitched by NBC will focus on the grand-daughter of original series character Samantha Stephens.
TVLine reports that NBC has given the go ahead for a pilot to be made of the planned revival of the witchy comedy Bewitched. It was first reported last week that a revival of Bewitched was being planned and now it has emerged it may be a continuation rather than a remake.

The pilot is being helmed by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein and will focus on the character of Daphne; the grand-daughter of Samantha Stephens. Daphne will be the daughter of Tabitha who was played by Lisa Hartman in the short-lived and poorly received spin-off series titled Tabitha.

Daphne is described as a “single twentysomething who discovers her quest for true love can’t be solved with magic”

Bewitched starred Elizabeth Montgomery as housewife and nose-twitching witch Samantha in the fondly remembered the series. Montgomery played the character in all 254 episodes of series which ran from 1964 to 1972.

Samantha’s attempts at balancing her home life with her witchy side were often at the heart of the show’s humour and her interfering and disapproving mother, Endora (Agnes Moorehead) never helped matters. Samantha’s husband Darrin (played by Dick York until 1969 and then Dick Sargent for the remainder of the show) was often the subject of Endora’s tricks.

Fans of the original comedy Bewitched would probably rather forget the 2005 film version starring Nicole Kidman, which was a critical and commercial flop.

In the UK episodes of Bewitched are currently being repeated on GOLD at 8.30am & 2.00pm every weekday.
