Hot In Cleveland to end after six seasons

Betty White - Air New Zealand AdvertComedy favourite Hot In Cleveland is to come to an end after its sixth season.

Broadcaster TV Land have confirmed the sitcom’s forthcoming sixth season will be its last; the final season will run to 24 episodes. Hot In Cleveland stars Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and the legendary Betty White.

“It’s been an honor to work with Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and the incomparable Betty White as well as our executive producers Suzanne Martin, Todd Milliner, Sean Hayes and the rest of our exceptional writers, production team and crew. The passion and talent they brought to the set each and every week over the past five years has put TV Land on the map as a network dedicated to quality original programming. We will continue to celebrate the show and are looking forward to a fantastic series finale.” – Larry W. Jones, TV Land president.

Hot In Cleveland launched in 2010 and focuses on three friends who decide to leave Los Angeles and the Hollywood life-style behind and settle down in Cleveland. Actress Betty White was only intended to appear in the opening episode but was quickly made a regular on the series. The comedy has been compared to the 1980s smash-hit The Golden Girls in which White also appeared.

ATV Today critic Queenie Le Trout said of the show’s end “Hot in Cleveland has had me in stitches since day one. It has always made me laugh and its a shame it is coming to an end. Some lower quality comedies run and run and run while the finer ones are cut short. But then they do say quality over quantity and that’s a less several other comedies could do with learning”.

Hot In Cleveland has spawned a spin-off, The Soul Man, and also featured a crossover with the ABC daytime soap opera All My Children before its cancellation. On the series the character of Victoria Chase (Wendie Malick) was the lead actress of a rival soap to All My Children and viewed actress Susan Lucci as her personal nemesis. Lucci has appeared, as herself, in several episodes of Hot In Cleveland of the years.

In the UK the comedy airs on the Sony television channel.
