ITV announces a second series of Grantchester

Grantchester is to return to ITV for a second series.

The broadcaster has recommissioned the mystery drama, a co-production between Lovely Day and Masterpiece, after its first series averaged a consolidated audience of 6.6 million viewers between 6 October and 10 November.

Set in the beautiful Cambridgeshire hamlet of the same name, Grantchester stars James Norton as detective-clergyman Sidney Chambers, and Robson Green, as his partner-in-crime Police Inspector Geordie Keating.

The series is based on James Runcie’s The Grantchester Mysteries, with Daisy Coulam adapting the novels for ITV. Coulam will base the scripts for series two on Sidney Chambers and the Perils of the Night the second novel in Runcie’s projected six-book arc.

Filming will commence on series two in London and Grantchester next year, while series one will air in the US from 18 January on Masterpiece.
