BBC One axes Tumble after debut series

BBC One has axed Tumble after its debut series.

The corporation claims it has not renewed the show in order to make room for new ones; however disappointing viewing figures are more likely to be behind the decision.

“Whilst we are proud of Tumble and very grateful to everyone involved, we sometimes have to take difficult decisions in order to make room for new shows.” a BBC spokesperson told Digital Spy

Fronted by Alex Jones the show saw celebrities team up with professional gymnasts to learn and perform various disciplines from the world of gymnastics. Participants included former EastEnder John Partridge, Loose Woman Andrea McLean and Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding.

The beeb had hoped that the series would prove successful following a succession of light entertainment flops including I Love My Country and That Puppet Game Show. But series one – won by Wolfblood actor Bobby Lockwood – averaged just 3.3m viewers earlier this year.
