Waterloo Road loses primetime BBC One slot
Waterloo Road has lost its primetime BBC One slot.
The show will now premiere on BBC Three on Monday evenings, with BBC One repeating it after the 10pm news.
The first BBC Three airing will be Monday 5th January at 8.00pm, with the show moving in subsequent weeks to accommodate EastEnders on BBC One which doesn’t air that night due to football. It will, however, remain in peak time on the youth-focused channel.
The move will take effect following the show’s Christmas break when the cancelled series returns to the schedules for a final 10 episodes. The BBC announced in April that it is not re-commissioning the show.
“In order to create space in the schedule for new shows at 8pm, the final series of Waterloo Road will transmit on BBC Three in peak on Monday nights, with a repeat at 10.35pm on BBC One. It will also be available on BBC iPlayer.” BBC Spokesperson quoted by Digital Spy
Waterloo Road was relocated from Rochdale to Greenock, Scotland at the end of its seventh series in a move many deemed implausible. The show once attracted over 5 million viewers but, in its current run, has struggled to keep half that number interested.
