Jeremy Clarkson on track to sign new Top Gear deal

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson is close to signing a new deal to continue fronting the popular motoring show.Top Gear

The Mirror reports that Clarkson, 54, is on the verge of signing a new deal with BBC Worldwide. The new deal will keep him as the lead presenter on Top Gear for another three years.

After a controversial year for the show and Clarkson, it had been speculated that Top Gear would face the axe. Rioting broke out while the show was filming in Argentina over the use of a controversial number plate, leading Clarkson and the gang to be ejected from the country.

There has been no official confirmation from the BBC on the new deal. It was announced today that BBC Worldwide had signed a deal for the show to continue to be screened in New Zealand. TV3 has signed a long-term deal, which includes Top Gear US.

Top Gear airs Sunday’s at 8.00pm on BBC Two.
