ITV has ordered three new documentaries from Oxford Scientific Films to bolster its ‘Secret Life of…’ strand.
Secret Life of Twins will encounter and highlight the stories behind different sets of identical twins, from those separated at birth who are so similar that they have an uncanny bond, to those with such surprising differences they raise profound questions about the nature of twins. Remarkable stories, including the inseparable, octogenarian DJs and a twin who risked his own life to save his brother, cast a light not only on what it means to be a twin, but also on what it means to be human.
“The Secret Life Brand offers the highest quality, visually stunning films, telling stories in an entertaining way. This strand provide an incredible and profound insight into the science that underpins our lives and we are delighted to be building on its success with this new commissions.” – ITV Factual Commissioning Editor, Andrew O’Connell
Secret Life of Me will encompass two documentaries: Growing Up and Growing Old, with the former looking at the metamorphosis from childhood to early adulthood and the second exploring a time when the body has to work harder to keep everything running. Both films will further the ‘Secret Life’ brand through their use of specialist photography to reveal the beauty of the human body as it ages, while remarkable human stories will illustrate the broader themes of each subject.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to produce more Secret Life of films for ITV. The series has proved a hit with audiences in the UK and around the world showing there is an appetite for entertaining popular science shows with beautiful images.” – CEO Oxford Scientific Films, Clare Birks
Previous Secret Life of documentaries include Secret Life of Babies, Secret Life of Cats and Secret Life of Dogs. The new ones will air later this year with BBC Worldwide handling the distribution rights.
