Shayne Ward talks Coronation Street role

Shayne Ward has spoken about his impending arrival in Weatherfield as Aidan Connor, a distant cousin of Kym Marsh’s character Michelle.

Speaking to ITV’s This Morning of the moment that he was told that he got a role in Coronation Street, the soap newcomer told the programme:

“It’s crazy, I was staying at my mums house in Manchester. And I walked into my mum’s room and said ‘mum, I got the part’… She was over the moon! She’s a massive fan of it. I’m sure she’ll be trying to get certain storylines out of me! …I [start filming] on 8th and 9th June… and on screen in August.”

On reports that he was set to play Sarah Harding’s ‘love interest’, Shayne admitted, “That’s not true at all” and remained tight lipped about whether he’ll play a ‘baddie’ or not adding, “You have to wait and see… I’m a nice guy for now…”

The role comes after Shayne’s acting on stage in Rock of Ages and The War of the Worlds. The former X Factor winner admitted that he’ll still juggle his acting work with his music. Shayne said;

“I’m releasing the second single very soon… It’s a balancing act with such a heavy schedule on Coronation Street, but the fans know that I will be creating a couple of shows in the summer… I’m very excited. I wouldn’t change a thing. Everything I’ve experienced so far has been incredible, and hopefully it will continue.”

Ward isn’t the first pop star to land a regular role in Corrie, Boyzone’s Keith Duffy played Ciaran McCarthy from 2002 to 2005 and again from 2010 to 2011.
