Hollyoaks bosses have cast Kierston Wareing as a new villainous character.

The former EastEnders actress will play “venomous vixen” Ashley Davidson, who was on the hunt for Ben Bradley’s druggie daughter Carly prior to her death.

The character will arrive next month in initial plots which see her show up at The Loft – run by her former acquaintance Trevor Royle (Greg Wood) – and demand money for an expensive ring Carly stole from her.

“I would describe Ashley as a control freak – I don’t believe she has a nice bone in her body but I’m enjoying every minute of playing her. I’m also thoroughly enjoying working with Greg Wood, Jorgie Porter and Charlie Wernham among others. Their characters are just a few who get manipulated by Ashley in some way or another, so stay tuned to see if she gets what she wants.” – Kierston Wareing

Wareing left EastEnders in 2013 after her character, Kirsty Branning, was axed by executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins. She has described a storyline she was key to during her 12 months on the BBC One saga as ’embarrassing’, it saw Kirsty pretend she was pregnant in order to maintain a relationship with Max (Jake Wood). The actress’s other credits include Fish Tank and The Shadow Line.

Meanwhile, Bruce Montague (Butterfiles) has also been cast in the soap as Nana McQueen’s abusive ex, Derek Clough.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with a first look on E4 at 7pm
