Carol Kirkwood is the sixth celebrity confirmed to be taking part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Kirkwood’s participation was announced this morning (18 August) on BBC Breakfast on which she presents the weather.

“I am beyond excited to be taking part in the best programme on British telly and have been a huge fan since it started! I can’t wait to learn to dance and hope my experience on Strictly will be a breeze, whether it will be or not is one forecast I cannot predict!” – Carol Kirkwood

In addition to her role on BBC Breakfast, the award-winning weather presenter has fronted The Weather Show for the BBC News, been a co-presenter of BBC One’s The Great British Weather and featured in items on The One Show.  Carol also reports the weather every day on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2.

Although new to the world of latin and ballroom, Carol has previously taken part in a number of televised song and dance routines for Children in Need such as the Newsreader’s Rocky Horror Show routine and a duet with former Strictly Champion and BBC Breakfast presenter Chris Hollins.

Previous celebrities confirmed for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing – which starts on BBC One next month – are TV and radio presenter Katie Derham, actresses Kellie Bright and Georgia May Foote, TV chef Ainsley Harriott, and presenter and journalist Jeremy Vine.
