ITV has confirmed that Grantchester will be back for a third series after each episode in its second run was the highest rated programme in its transmission slot.

Set in the 1950s, the drama follows an unlikely crime-fighting duo – the charismatic, charming clergyman Sidney Chambers (James Norton) and gruff, down-to-earth Police Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green).

The first run of episodes which started in October 2014 held an average of 6.6 million viewers and a 24% share. Series two which has been on screen during March and early April 2016 is currently consolidating at 6.6 million viewers and 26% share of viewing.

Grantchester is a Lovely Day and MASTERPIECE co-production based on James Runcie’s The Grantchester Mysteries and adapted by writer Daisy Coulam. Further details on the drama’s third outing will be announced by ITV at a later date.
