BBC One has acquired award-winning Irish serial Red Rock to broadcast in the daytime schedules.

“Daytime viewers are in for a treat with Red Rock. It’s a compelling new police drama set in Ireland, it has plenty of twists and turns, and it’s coming to the BBC this year.”Dan McGolpin, Controller of BBC Daytime

The forty episode series is to be transmitted daily later in the year. Set around the busy police precinct in a fictional seaside town just outside of Dublin, Red Rock follows the Hennessys and the Kielys, two local warring families. When a bloodied and lifeless body is found on the piers, a longstanding dormant feud between the two families is brutally reignited.

Written by Peter McKenna whose credits include BBC soaps Doctors and EastEnders and beeb dramas including Casualty and Holby City the series stars Richard Flood, Andrea Irvine, Cathy Belton, Denise McCormack, Liam Carney, Paul Roe and Jane McGrath.

Red Rock was met with critical acclaim when it premiered in Ireland in 2015. The series is produced by Element Pictures and Company Pictures, and the executive producers are Ed Guiney and John Yorke.

“We are very proud to see Red Rock secure a home on the BBC. Red Rock delivers an engaging cast of characters and storylines that will grip audiences with this original mix of family drama and police procedural.” – Stephen Driscoll, EVP Media, All3Media International
