Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 to host Marilyn Monroe collection
Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 will pay homage to one of the world’s greatest Hollywood icons this August, showcasing highlights from the largest privately owned Marilyn Monroe collection on the line’s signature Transatlantic Crossing, 9-16 August 2016.
“We are honoured to have the opportunity to sail across the Atlantic on board Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 with this prestigious Marilyn Monroe collection and share it with the passengers on this voyage,” – Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions.
Celebrity auction house Julien’s Auctions will showcase highlights from David Gainsborough-Roberts’ renowned Marilyn Monroe Collection, the world’s largest collection of film-worn Marilyn Monroe costumes, on board Cunard’s flagship ocean liner for passengers to view and purchase. The collection, comprised of film costumes, personal gowns and clothing, jewellery, property owned by Monroe, and original photographs and film posters, is the most substantial Marilyn Monroe archive of professional and personal items that exists today.
“For as long as I can remember, Marilyn has been a part of my life and over many years I have built up my own private Marilyn Collection. It is now time for me to share this with the world, which I am proud to dedicate to her name on this year of her 90th Birthday Anniversary.” – – David Gainsborough Roberts, owner of the largest private collection of Monroe’s dresses.
On the eight-night, eastbound Transatlantic Crossing, departing out of New York, guests will enjoy a daily, rotating exhibition of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia, exclusive opportunity to bid on choice items in advance of the general auction in November, a Q&A with Julien’s Auctions executives Darren Julien, Founder and CEO, and Martin Nolan, Executive Director, a Q&A with David Gainsborough-Robert and a personal appearance and photo opportunity with famed Monroe impersonator Suzie Kennedy as Marilyn Monroe.
“We are proud to offer our guests this exclusive opportunity to view this one-of-kind collection from the incomparable life of Marilyn Monroe on board our own unrivaled ocean liner, Queen Mary 2.” – Cunard Marketing Director, Angus Struthers
The Marilyn Monroe Collection, which is touring the world before the auction in November, offers film worn costumes which cover an extensive portion of Marilyn’s acting career. From “Niagara” to “Some Like It Hot,” seven of Marilyn’s most notable films are represented with many created by award-winning designers and well known costumers of Hollywood.
Queen Mary 2 will have just come out of her 25-day dry dock Remastering, introducing new designs and guest experiences including the redesign of the Princess and Queens Grills staterooms and restaurants, new dining venues and lounges, and expansion of the only kennels at sea.
