ITV viewers witnessed This Morning’s first live wedding today as chosen couple, Annie and Gareth, took an emotional and happy walk down the aisle to tie the knot.

Since This Morning Throws A Wedding launched last year in November, viewers have seen key planning moments with help from This Morning experts: fashion guru Gok Wan who designed Annie’s wedding dress, celebrity makeup artist Bryony Blake, Phil Vickery for the wedding menu options and Alison Hammond put her Strictly dancing shoes on again to teach the couple a few moves for their first dance.

On the special show today, broadcast live from the floating wedding venue – HQS Wellington – a large ship located on the River Thames and a stone’s throw from This Morning’s London studio, viewers watched as groom Gareth arrived at the venue by boat and also waved the beautiful bride Annie off from the studio.

Ahead of the wedding ceremony, aboard the HQS Wellington, Rylan Clark-Neal said: “We’ve got the perfect weather for a wedding. It’s absolutely lovely – all the friends and family are here on board. Our groom Gareth is currently on his way to the boat, proper James Bond style-y, coming down the Thames. This is real. This is actually happening. “

Back at the studio Holly Willoughby said “That is so cool. It’s so exciting – I love a wedding!”

Phillip Schofield added: “It’s great – we’ve got every aspect of it covered.”

Later in the show as the ceremony began, a tearful Annie was walked down the aisle by her son Freddie and joined an emotional Gareth at the altar to be joined in matrimony.

Having watched the ceremony from the studio, Holly said: “They’ve only gone and done it. Our very first live wedding and what a beautiful couple – the new husband and wife.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on STV, UTV and ITV
