BBC Two to revisit the Chillenden murders
The Chillenden murders are to feature in a BBC Two documentary.
“Following their recent acclaimed films Abused: The Untold Story; How to Die: Simon’s Choice; and The Detectives, Minnow Films will explore whether the right man is in prison for these horrific murders; and if Michael Stone wasn’t responsible, whether the real killer remained undetected, allowing him to murder again. BBC documentaries do not shy away from tackling complex and difficult subjects, and this film will investigate all angles of this shocking crime.” – Patrick Holland, BBC Head of Documentaries, Commissioning
The murders in Chillenden, Kent, in 1996 were one of the most notorious crimes of recent years. The killings of Lin Russell and her daughter Megan, along with the attempted-murder of nine year-old Josie, shocked the nation. After a year long police investigation, a man from Kent, Michael Stone, was charged, tried, found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Now, with the jailed man still claiming his innocence, independent experts doubting the safety of his conviction, and the tabloids naming alternative suspects, this documentary embarks on an investigation into the case, exploring new information and examining if the right man is in jail for the crime.
