Joan Collins talks Donald Trump
Actress Dame Joan Collins has spoken about whether she had ever been intimate with Donald Trump and her view on Madonna’s Met Gala outfit.
Talking to ITV’s Good Morning Britain she also spoke to presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid about her late sister Jackie and on whether she plans to retire. When presenter Piers cheekily asked her if she had ever been intimate with Donald Trump and whether he had ever ‘tried it’ on with her Joan said:
“No. No he didn’t. Absolutely not. I was one of the best friends of his wife Ivana, besides, I was married!”
Continuing on the subject of presidential candidate Trump, she said:
“I think it’s quite extraordinary. I think they want to get away from the Obama feeling but people have not been happy with him at all. I don’t know if you’ve been to America recently but there are homeless people in Fifth Avenue sitting in the stores, it’s shocking that in the richest country in the world that they can’t take care of those people.”
“You know I based Alexis [from Dynasty] on his character, his business acumen and his get up and go and his ruthlessness in the boardroom. I never actually told him…he wanted to be in Dynasty. He went to the casting director and he said ‘I want to be in Dynasty.’ This is about ’86 or ’87 and he said ‘well you can’t, we’re cast’ and he said ‘but I am Dynasty’ and he then went and did that amazing programme. They’re so glamorous. We haven’t had a glamorous leading lady in Washington since Jackie Kennedy.”
On her opinion of Madonna’s Met Gala dress, she said:
“I thought it was a costume party, Halloween look, but it’s the Met Ball which is supposedly one of the most glamorous and fashionable events and I thought that the bottom thing coming out was a bit over the top.
“It reminded me of a time when I was in a movie called ‘The Stud’ and pictures of me were out but I was just wearing a basque – a strapless thing and black stockings, but when I went to my son Sacha’s school to meet the headmaster and do that thing you do, he was 16 and he was very embarrassed because all of the boys were there peeking around the corner and they’d seen The Stud even though they weren’t supposed to see it and he told me later, he said, ‘it was really embarrassing to see my mother in that basque’. I said, ‘but I was covered up it’s not like I was naked’…but anyway he was teased unrelentingly so I think perhaps Madonna’s son also might get teased. I am the least ageist person…if you want to do that, be prepared to be made a figure of fun because I don’t know anybody who hasn’t been laughing about it.”
On her late sister Jackie Collins:
“It’s very hard. When she first died, I said, ‘I don’t think I can live in California anymore, I think we have to sell our apartment and we’ll go to Miami’…it’s very hard on us and it’s very hard on my brother and the girls but we have wonderful memories of her, there are pictures of her all over our house. She was a great loveable person, she was very shy which people didn’t know about her. She had a very tight knit group of friends and although she seemed very gregarious and outgoing and she would talk about her books she was actually an extremely private person.”
On whether she is planning to slow down and retire, Dame Joan said:
“No, why? If you slow down you die darling. Seriously people who retire in their 60s particularly, they only live for about two years, my brother told me this, so I decided I’m going to go on as long as I can. Besides 70 is the new 50 and up and up…I said to the Queen, well I didn’t actually, but 90 is the 70. I said it to Jerry Lewis.”
