Big Brother returns with new look, new twist

Big Brother Emma and Rylan 2016

Big Brother returned to our screens with its seventeenth series last night and one of the biggest launch twists to-date.

For the first time in the show’s history, the reality series launched with not one but two houses. The heavily trailed ‘The Others’ was finally revealed to the audience as 12 new housemates settled into their new home for the summer.

Shedding light on the twist, show host Emma Willis explained that 6 other hopefuls will be living next door to the main house in a specially built second dwelling. The Others will be competing for a place in the main house and a chance to win the £100,000 prize. As the week goes on, it will be revealed that The Others are linked to the current housemates, and not necessarily in a good way.

The live launch also gave fans a first look at the re-designed house and outdoor set – replacing the walkway and ‘opening eye’ which had been in use since Channel 5 began airing Big Brother 2011.

Once 12 housemates had entered the main house, Big Brother opened the garden and instructed them to each stand behind a podium marked with a personality trait that best describes themselves. Meanwhile, the six Others were told to choose a trait they wanted to ‘target’, and opted for ‘sexy’. The Others lambasted the game as they had no idea who they were targeting.

As Laura Carter (pictured) was the housemate stood behind the ‘sexy’ podium, she was told she would be facing eviction. She was then ordered to choose another housemate to join her. Laura chose former reality TV star Lateysha Grace.

It is thought the first eviction of the series will take place this Friday.
