EastEnders kills off Paul Coker
EastEnders’ Paul Coker – actor Jonny Labey – has been killed off, with the saga’s latest airing (from 8.00pm on BBC One this evening) concluding with a shot of the character’s lifeless body.
In tonight’s (18 July) episode of the soap, Ben’s father Phil (Steve McFadden) and half-brother Ian (Adam Woodyatt) received word that Ben had been admitted to hospital with critical injuries, following his involvement in a fight.
The pair dashed to the hospital where a doctor broke the news to them that the man they had been treating, believed to be Ben, had died from his injuries. However, Ian and Phil were shocked when they were taken to view Ben’s body and were shown the bruised corpse of his boyfriend Paul Coker (Jonny Labey) instead.
Viewers will have to stay tuned to EastEnders on BBC One this week to discover the fate of the as-yet unaccounted for Ben, and what happened after Paul and Ben (Harry Reid) were seen leaving in high spirits for a night out in Friday’s (15 July) episode.
The BBC announced in April that Labey had been written out of EastEnders and would depart the serial in an ‘explosive storyline’. The actor has already landed his next role in stage play Verge of Strife as poet Rupert Brooke when the show launches in Edinburgh this August.
Paul arrived in Albert Square to stay with his grandparents in June 2015, after a few years in sunnier climes travelling and working as a club rep. Storylines have seen him appease his nan’s guilt over the role she played in his father’s death, suspect his grandfather of having an affair with Claudette Hubbard (Ellen Thomas), and enter a relationship with Ben Mitchell (Harry Reid).
