Danny-Boy Hatchard to leave EastEnders

Lee Carter (Danny-Boy Hatchard) has become the third EastEnders character to be announced as exiting this week.

A spokesperson for the saga confirmed to The Sun that Lee – a former squaddie in the plots – has been written out and will leave ‘in the next few months’.

The beeb announced Danny-Boy Hatchard as joining EastEnders in the role of Lee in January 2014. Hatchard, who had recently performed in the acclaimed 20th anniversary revival of Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing in the West End, noted he was ‘incredibly excited’ to be joining the soap’s cast.

The eldest child of Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda (Kellie Bright), Lee made his first appearance in April 2014 and initially featured on a recurring basis returning to the army after visiting his parents. Lee’s storylines include his expulsion from the army and suffering depression.

In a recent plot he was exposed as having cheated on girlfriend Whitney (Shona McGarty) with Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald) after a pregnant Whitney was told she had chlamydia. Whitney initially blamed herself for the infection before Abi confessed it had been passed on via her.

Earlier this week it was reported that Samantha Womack and Rita Simons are bowing out of the saga as Mitchell sisters Ronnie and Roxy in a ‘big storyline’. Pam (Lin Blakley) and Les Coker (Roger Sloman) are also leaving the show.
