Charlie Brooks rules out EastEnders return

Charlie Brooks has ruled out a return to EastEnders.

The actress played bad girl Janine Butcher in the show for 10 years (with breaks), but has ruled out a reprisal of the role.

“As much as I love the show and it’s fantastic, I have to move on from that really,” the actress told a Loose Women panel comprising of Nadia Sawalha, Linda Robson, Anne Diamond and Saira Khan today.

She went on to hint that typecasting was a cause for concern.

“I’m fighting my way away from Janine now, and it is a struggle, in a non-conceited way you become a victim of your own success, the character did become really iconic.

“So I’m doing theatre, I’m fighting my way, edging my way out – as much as I do love Janine.”

Since leaving the popular BBC saga in 2013, Charlie has appeared in Channel 5 cop show Suspects and in theatre productions A Street Car Named Desire and Beautiful Thing.
