Michael Buerk to look at Royal Recipes

Royal Recipes is to air on BBC One with Michael Buerk overseeing proceedings.

The 45-minute programmes will see Michael visit the former Royal Palace, Audley End, and he will be joined by top chefs, including Paul Ainsworth and Anna Haugh, to cook up royal food past and present. Plus, Michael will explore the recollections of Mildred Nicholls, a servant who worked in the Royal Kitchens more than a hundred years ago.

Mildred recorded the recipes and methods for dishes prepared for the King and Queen and now the Royal Archives has given the telly show access to this fascinating record of royal food at the turn of the century. Inspired by the book and other royal food through history, some of Britain’s most exciting chefs will create favourite Royal recipes past and present whilst Michael adds riveting historical detail.

In addition, over the fifteen episodes, food historians travel the length and breadth of Britain to reveal how Royal food has shaped our nations’ tastes and a host of guest chefs, some who have cooked for the royal family, give an insight into favoured dishes and meet the people who supply food for the Royal table.

The programme will be produced by Spun Gold, best known as the production company behind ITV’s The Alan Titchmarsh Show. Royal Recipes is due for transmission in early 2017.
