Dale Winton joins Channel 5 for Before They Were Famous
Dale Winton has popped out of his supermarket and into Channel 5 for a two part show looking at celebs before they were stars.
Channel 5 next week begin a two part series which brings to screens some archive clips of the biggest names on the planet, in moments they almost certainly didn’t want to star in. Enter a world of forbidden footage from a time before real fame, when these celebrities were young, foolish, needed the money and didn’t have a crack PR team in place to destroy the evidence.
TV legend Dale Winton is at his charming cheeky best, with a twinkle in his eye and his tongue firmly in cheek, as he reveals some amazing moments unearthed from the archives. To be fair, they are not all the stuff of blackmail.
These two hour-long specials feature a wealth of past gems from across the superstar spectrum, including pop stars and rock legends, film stars and comedians, sporting icons and top telly presenters.
Enjoy Emma Stone’s early efforts in an ill-fated talent contest, Vin Diesel break-dancing, Morgan Freeman channelling Jimi Hendrix on a 70s kids’ TV show, Bruno Mars as a four-year-old Elvis impersonator, and even national sweetheart Olivia Coleman on 90s yoof-fest The Word.
This show goes from improbably cute to utterly jaw-dropping faster than Rob Brydon can sell you a lawn-mower on a shopping channel. And Channel 5 have even managed to get hold of that for your viewing pleasures.
Dale Winton of course is best known as the host of ITV game show Supermarket Sweep – currently repeating on Challenge TV. Dale began his career as a DJ on the London club circuit, later joining the beeb in Bristol in 1986 to host BBC One’s Pet Watch. Other programmes include Pick of the Pops for BBC Radio 2 and action game show Hole In The Wall for BBC One.
Before They Were Famous, begins Saturday June 17th at 8pm on Channel 5
