Telemundo celebrates ratings success
Telemundo beats ABC and CBS regardless of language in competitive prime time slot.
Telemundo the Spanish-language broadcaster for Hispanic audiences around the world is celebrating a stateside ratings success last night.
Starring Rafael Amaya, the fifth season premiere of Telemundo’s Emmy Award-winning show Lord of the Skies, was the most-watched program in Spanish-language primetime, outperforming Univision by +43% among total viewers (2,275,000 vs. 1,590,000), +88% among adults 18-49 (1,396,000 vs. 741,000) and +97% among adults 18-34 (627,000 vs. 318,000), according to Nielsen.
The series also ranked as the #2 broadcast network, regardless of language, outperforming CBS and ABC, and all English-language cable networks at 10pm, among adults 18-49 and adults 18-34. Overall, Telemundo ranked as the #1 Spanish-language network in primetime among all key demos, averaging 1,637,000 among total viewers, 842,000 among adults 18-49 and 358,000 among adults 18-34.
Telemundo was the #1 station, regardless of language, among adults 18-49 in Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Phoenix & Philadelphia for the 10pm slot. The network also ranked #1 in Spanish-language among total viewers and adults 18-49 in New York, Orlando, Denver and Tampa. During the 7pm-11p primetime, Telemundo ranked as the #1 Spanish-language network among total viewers and adults 18-49 in New York, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Orlando, Philadelphia, Denver and Tampa.
In the new season, Aurelio Casillas (Amaya) has withdrawn himself from the action and his business to enjoy life with his lover, especially now that the authorities think he is dead. However, he knows he must prepare for an impending war with his nephew, which will end in a life-or-death struggle against his own family.
The four previous seasons of Lord of the Skies have positioned this Super Series™ as the most-watched program at 10pm on Spanish-language television. In 2014, it won the first-ever International Emmy® award given in the category of Non-English Language US Primetime Program.
