ITV Yorkshire have confirmed that actor Adam Thomas is to depart their soap opera Emmerdale.
“Everyone will be really gutted to see Adam go! He’s a top bloke and a really talented actor. But he’s given us a lot of notice, so we’ve been able to prepare a huge exit story for him. I’m really excited to see it play out on screen – however sad it will be to wave goodbye to such a brilliant character and cast member.” – Series Producer Iain MacLeod
After eight years of playing the role of Adam Barton in ITV’s Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas has taken the decision to leave the show the broadcaster has announced. The Leeds based production however won’t be bidding farewell just yet to the 28-year-old actor who will continue working on the Yorkshire dales saga until the end of this year.

Adam is Moira Barton’s only son and the apple of her eye. He joined the show in 2009 as part of the Barton family and took over Butler’s Farm with father John, mother Moira and sisters Holly and Hannah. During his time in the series, he’s played a large part in various storylines including the deaths of his father John and sister Holly, the discovery his uncle James was actually his biological father, the break up with his wife Victoria Sugden and the longstanding bromance with his gay best friend Aaron Dingle.
‘Adam’s own sense of fun is infectious’ note the the programme’s website, they add, he ‘will be missed by both crew and cast alike and everyone wishes him the best with his future career.’ Adam is the younger brother of former Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas.
“I’ve had an amazing eight years working on Emmerdale and I’ve loved every minute of it. It was a really tough decision to take to leave but I felt that now is the time to move on and challenge myself with some new roles. I’d like to thank everyone at Emmerdale for both giving me the opportunity to work as part of such a great team and for giving my character Adam Barton some great storylines too.” – Adam Thomas
In other casting news former Brookside actor Mark Moraghan is to join the serial as new character Tim Richards. Mark had previously, briefly, appeared in the rural series back in the 1980s as a different character. In his role as Tom he will arrive into Chrissie’s life when Lawrence tracks him down to his home address, threatening him from making future contact with his family. However, Tim seems determined to wreak revenge for what happened to his brother and build a relationship with his niece, Chrissie.
