Teen murderer Kim Edwards’ story to air on Channel 5

Channel 5 has exclusive access to the confession of one of Britain’s two youngest double murderers.

Lucas Markham and his girlfriend, Kim Edwards, were both just 14 years old when they killed Kim’s mother and younger sister at Kim’s home in Spalding, Lincolnshire, in April 2016. The motive for the killing was jealousy.

Kim resented the attention her 13-year-old sister got from their mother while Lucas is believed to have begrudged Mrs Edwards for trying to put an end to his relationship with Kim. Both are now serving a minimum of seventeen and a half years for murder, with a judge lifting the order that would normally have guaranteed both killers anonymity on the basis of their juvenile status.

The programme, Murdered by My Daughter, has exclusive extracts of the audio recording made by police as they interviewed Lucas.

In a calm, undramatic voice, Lucas tells the officer interviewing him:

“I went into her mum’s room and stabbed her in the neck while she was asleep on her side and smothered her face with a pillow.”

He admits killing Elizabeth then admits he killed Katie because he thought she would call the police. Asked to confirm if that was the only reason, Lucas casually replies:

“Pretty much.”

The police officer who led the investigation, Detective Superintendent Martin Holvey of Lincolnshire Police, told the programme that neither Lucas nor Kim showed any remorse during questioning by police – and that their confessions were “just like they’re telling a story”

“And after I knew she had gone, I went into Katie’s room – which is the same room as Kim’s – and I thought I stabbed her, but… I thought I stabbed her, but I’m not a hundred per cent sure – it was, like, her on a mattress and then I smothered her face with a pillow too.”

Police had already released part of the audio recording of Kim’s confession, in which she admits going into her mother’s bedroom after Lucas had killed her – to check that he was okay.

“You actually recount the story to your team and everyone sits there – hardened detectives – and think, I can’t believe what you’re hearing. You know, over 30 years as a cop, you look at this case and there’s nothing that rivals it that I’ve come across. A really brutal, chilling, cold and callous act that was carried out by these two children on two defenceless victims.” – Detective Superintendent Martin Holvey

Asked by the police how she felt immediately after her mother and sister had been killed, Kim said:

“I was okay with it. Just the fact that it happened so quickly that, like, gave me peace of mind cos like, you know, it wasn’t like torture or anything.”

Elizabeth’s boyfriend, lorry driver Graham Green, reveals his last conversation with her and that while he was driving on the night of the murders, he had “a sensation go over my body like something had happened” – and that his anxiety grew when he rang Elizabeth and she didn’t answer.

In “Murdered by My Daughter”, Mr Green says Kim is “another Myra Hindley, as far as I’m concerned” – and that the killers had robbed Elizabeth and him of the life they’d planned together.

Murdered by my Daughter airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 5
