Alison King to return to Coronation Street
Alison King is returning to Coronation Street as Carla Connor.
RadioTimes.com reports that the actress is to reprise the popular character for an on-screen return this Christmas.
“Ever since I got here, it’s been rumoured that Carla’s coming back. But it was never true. Even the latest indications of it. Ali has only just signed her contract and she’ll be back around Christmas.
“It’s time to break new ground with Carla. I didn’t want to put her on that familiar cycle of self-destruction, recovery, followed by more self-destruction.
“What we’ll have instead are these two strong Connor women – Carla and Michelle – on opposing sides and in conflict for a change. It’ll be a refreshing dynamic for us to see.” – Kate Oates speaking to RadioTimes
King previously played the role of Carla between 2006-2016, leaving last year to spend more time with her daughter. She told Metro.co.uk of her decision to depart:
“I was meant to give myself four years at the most and I’ve done an amazing ten years but it’s knackering. I need to creatively be a few other people now and see my daughter a bit more.” – Alison King
Carla has featured in her fair share of dramatic storylines over the years including love affairs, being raped and wrongly accused of murder, battling addictions to booze and gambling and finding out that Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) is her father.
