EastEnders character to die in gas explosion?

Albert Square is to see a ‘gas explosion’ that will claim at least one life.

The incident takes place as ‘Walford in Bloom’ is marked with a community gathering in Albert Square.

‘When the mayor turns up amid the flower displays, things get a bit heated and then a huge explosion goes off, catching everyone off guard and leaving a lot of them in a bad way,’ The Sun notes.

The tabloid further states that at least one of the BBC One soap’s characters won’t survive the blast. However, the beeb has not commented on its claims.

“Viewers will be left wondering whether it was set off on purpose or by accident, and bosses are staying tight-lipped about who will die but at least one is looking like they will.”

The Sun adds that Max Branning’s (Jake Wood) scheming is set to be exposed in the aftermath of the explosion. Max has manipulated a number of situations to his advantage in recent months; while presenting a front that he isn’t out for revenge over his wrongful imprisonment for Lucy’s murder.

Max is currently blackmailing Steven (Aaron Sidwell) over his fake brain tumour, using him to run dodgy errands.

EastEnders has aired a few fire-related disasters over the years, below a selection of them:

Mark Fowler rescues Mo Butcher from a fire in 1990.

A camera captures the action as the Queen Vic burns down for the first time in 1992, being torched by Grant Mitchell for the insurance. He unwittingly put Sharon and Roly the poodle in mortal peril.

Phil Mitchell set fire to the car lot for Frank Butcher in 1994 in another insurance job. A young man sleeping there died.

Pauline Fowler’s careless discarding of a cigarette sent the Fowler house up in flames in 2006.

The second fire at the Vic was in 2010. It prompted Peggy Mitchell’s decision to leave Walford.

The B&B ablaze in a Christmas 2011 storyline that saw dodgy fireworks being stored on the premises agitate a fire started by Yusef Khan.
