Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan get ready to return to GMB
Breakfast TV presenters Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan return to ITV’s Good Morning Britain from Monday.
“After a calm and peaceful break, I’m sharpening my wits and gearing up for being back in the hot seat next to the only man in Britain who could start an argument in an empty room. We live in interesting times and it’ll be good to be back in the newsroom bringing events to our GMB viewers.” – Susanna Reid
As ATV Today editor Doug Lambert notes, in this opinion item, the pair have been on leave over the summer holidays with other GMB presenters and special guest hosts expertly filling their shoes whilst they have been away. Piers and Susanna will present GMB from Monday to Wednesday, 6am to 8.30am.
Eamonn Holmes was just one of the summer hosts filling in that we wish was a more regular face.
Former GMTV presenter Ben Shephard also returns from leave on Thursday 7th September presenting with Susanna on Thursday, and Kate Garraway on Friday morning. This September on Good Morning Britain, viewers can expect to see extensive coverage of the morning’s breaking news, interviews with the biggest showbiz names, politicians being grilled, fascinating human interest stories and fiery debates, as well as the weather, sport and competitions ITV note.
Guests appearing next week on the show which airs from 6am to 8.30am include Caitlyn Jenner, former pro-basketball player and friend of Kim Jong-un, Dennis Rodman, iconic singer Lulu, comedian and novelist Julian Clary, former English cricketer Freddie Flintoff, and Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg.
“Bad news, Britain… I’m back on Monday morning and raring to go like a ravenous leopard. Albeit one with three broken ribs. Brace yourselves…it’s going to be lively.” – Piers Morgan
Richard Madeley joined the usual co-stars of GMB for summer stints, bringing his journalist background to the fore.
Over the summer guest hosts have included former GMTV and Sky News host Eamonn Holmes, This Morning and Granada Reports anchor Richard Madeley and people issues host Jeremy Kyle. Madeley was the stand out host of the summer; bringing his professional journalistic skills, warm personality, humour and knowing the facts to the lead anchor role, showing Morgan how it should be done.
The past couple of weeks has also seen the Lorraine Kelly slot – which is a bit like spotting a rare bird as to see Lorraine actually hosting it – replaced with GMB Today, an extension of the main Good Morning Britain format, this also worked well with the summer hosts however its believed the show was only introduced to allow for the Lorraine set to be modernised and isn’t scheduled to be a more permanent holiday replacement – sadly.
“After a summer hunting for ninjas in Manchester, I’ve got a new pencil case, given my shoes a good polish, and once I’ve raided the lost property cupboard for my only tie, I’ll be ready for the new term. It’ll be good to wake up with the nation again – frankly Mrs S has got very bored of me!” – Ben Shephard
