Rev. Richard Coles departs Strictly Come Dancing

The former eighties pop star exited the competiton this weekend.

Richard and his partner Dianne Buswell found themselves in the dance off alongside Sunday Brunch‘s Simon Rimmer and his partner Karen Clifton after the judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes.

Looking to impress the judging panel and secure their place in the competition, each couple performed their routine from Saturday’s (7 October) movie-themed show again with Richard and Dianne repeating their Paso Doble to Flash Gordon from the movie Flash Gordon and Simon and Karen performing their Quickstep to You’ve Got a Friend in Me from the movie Toy Story.

The judges then delivered their verdicts with Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli all voting to save Simon and Karen. Head Judge Shirley Ballas confirmed that she was in agreement with her colleagues.

“It’s been a joy. Every minute of it I’ve enjoyed, even when Dianne was hissing through her teeth “feet, frame, feet, frame”, it’s been completely joyous. I only forgot to reckon into my strategy that I can’t actually dance!” – Rev. Richard Coles

Dianne added: “I have had the time of my life and he is a friend for life.”

Sunday’s Results show also featured an outstanding Disney themed performance from Strictly’s professional dancers, plus a musical performance from the award-winning Sheridan Smith singing My Man from the movie Funny Girl.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 14th October with the results show on Sunday 15th October on BBC One.
