Children In Need 2017 presenter line up announced

Mel Giedroyc is to join Graham Norton, Tess Daly, Ade Adepitan, Rochelle Humes and Marvin Humes as one of the 2017 presenters of beeb telethon Children in Need.

Coming live from the BBC’s Elstree studios on Friday 17th November, the night will feature a spectacular star-studded line-up as they join together to help raise money for disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

Presenting the show for a second time, chat show queen Graham Norton is joined by long-term supporter of BBC Children in Need, and Strictly Come Dancing host, Tess Daly.

Returning again in 2017, Ade Adepitan is ‘very excited’ to be back on the show while Marvin Humes returns for another stint alongside his wife, Rochelle. He describes being part of the charity event ‘incredible’ and ‘a dream come true.’ The 2016 fundraiser saw £46,624,259 raised on the night of the telethon with performances from Little Mix, Zara Larsson, Busted, David Brent, Craig David as well as stars from Strictly Come Dancing, EastEnders, Aladdin and Motown.

Other treats included a Fantastic Beasts special, a children’s edition of Would I Lie To You, previews of Doctor Who and Call The Midwife’s Christmas Specials and a Citizen Khan vs Citizen Kane sketch. Celebrities including Nadiya Hussain, Len Goodman, James McAvoy, Matt Baker, Eddie Redmayne, Michael Sheen, Sheridan Smith, and Ellie Simmonds reminded the country about where their money goes with stories of the children and young people who have received support from the charity.

The BBC’s first broadcast charity appeal took place in 1927, with the Children In Need fund-raising event airing on radio only until 1955 when Christmas appeals there after were broadcast on BBC TV until 1979. The format was revamped from hour-long specials transmitted as part of the beeb’s festive season into the November telethon which first began in 1980, with Terry Wogan, Esther Rantzen and Sue Lawley presenting.

Co-hosts have changed over the decades Sir Terry had always been involved with the yearly television event up until he withdrew due to ill health shortly before his death, his final night on the Children In Need set was back in 2014, although he made pre-recorded appearances during the 2015 outing. He first became involved with Children In Need in 1978 when he presented an appeal film.
