Simon Rimmer departs Strictly Come Dancing

Sunday Brunch‘s resident chef exited the competition as Strictly celebrated Halloween this week.

Simon and his partner Karen Clifton found themselves in the dance off alongside Mollie King of girl band The Saturdays and her partner AJ Pritchard after the judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes.

Each couple performed their routine again; Simon and Karen did their Viennese Waltz to Tom Jones’ Delilah whilst Mollie and AJ repeated their Cha Cha to Better The Devil You Know by Kylie Minogue in a bid to win over the judges.

The judges then delivered their verdicts with Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli saving Mollie and AJ. Head Judge Shirley Ballas confirmed that she shared her colleagues’ desire to see Mollie and AJ progress further in the competition.

“Do you know it has been the most amazing experience ever, you know, from the minute I walked in through the door. The Strictly experience is just so positive, every single person involved in it is so positive. And like, all of that lot up there, all the rest of the class of 2017, are just magnificent people. All the pro dancers are amazing. When I danced the Waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone and it touched people, I will never ever forget that; our Charleston last week was a giggle, it was brilliant. Every person who has come up and said hello and thank you messages has been brilliant. But the biggest thank you obviously is to Karen who has just been amazing, who has convinced this lumbering 54 year-old bloke that I could stand-up on a Saturday night and dance in front of millions of people and she has become you know, a proper friend not just to me but to all my family and for that I can’t thank you enough.” – Simon Rimmer

Karen added: “A complete beginner but you know what you’ve grown to be such a great performer and I’ve loved every second really and it’s been a privilege. And thank you for all the food!”

Sunday’s results show also featured a magical musical performance from Steps singing Scared of the Dark.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One on Saturday 4th November.
