Sony to launch UK Crime Channel
The crime channel will launch as a free-to-air service next month with launch titles including Orange Is The New Black and Line of Duty.
‘Sony Crime Channel’ – a merger of The Sony Channel and True Crime – will bring crime buffs a carefully curated schedule full of the best scripted and non-scripted entertainment from the genre.
Its programming slate at launch includes Orange is the New Black, Jed Mercutio’s award-winning cop corruption drama Line of Duty, the UK premiere of Real Detective: North of the Border and stalwarts such as Person of Interest, CSI, Deadly Women, Hustle and Law & Order.
To celebrate the launch Sony Pictures Television Networks will broadcast Sony Crime Channel simultaneously across sister channels True Entertainment and truTV from 9pm in a special event designed to showcase the channel to the biggest audience. The simulcast stunt will feature a criminally good line-up starting with Person of Interest at 9pm, CSI at 10pm and Orange is the New Black at 11pm.
The channel will launch on Freeview 60 from 6th February, and will also be available on Sky 157 with a Freesat launch on 143 a bit later in the month. Sony say that the channel will attract mostly a female audience and “create a one-stop destination for crime fans to immerse themselves in the genre with a vibrant fusion of fascinating stories, heart-pounding thrills, engrossing characters and stunning reveals.”
