Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear join House of Cards

Lane and Kinnear join the Netflix series for its final run.

Kevin Spacey was dropped from the final series of House of Cards following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Netflix has confirmed that production resumed earlier today (Jan 31st) on the sixth run of episodes of House of Cards. The series follows an earlier BBC production of the same name, both programmes based on a novel written by Michael Dobbs, a former Chief of Staff with the Conservative Party.

With the departure of former lead actor Kevin Spacey, due to off-screen allegations of inappropriate behaviour, the production company have announced that actors Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear will join the cast for the final eight episodes.

Lane and Kinnear join Golden Globe winner Robin Wright, as well as Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott and Boris McGiver in the upcoming sixth and final season. This last run of episodes of House of Cards will follow on from the fifth series’ finale which saw Robin Wright as Claire Underwood take over the role of president of the United States following the resignation of Spacey’s character Frank Underwood. This plot was devised and recorded before any of the issues about Spacey’s behaviour were raised, however, this storyline finale has made an easy excuse to remove his character from the forthcoming editions.

In 2013, House of Cards became the first original online series to receive major nominations from the Primetime Emmy Awards. The series has received 53 Emmy nominations to date, with seven wins — including the first major Emmy for a streaming service for David Fincher’s win for “Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.” House of Cards received six Golden Globe nominations, and two wins.

The series has received 11 Screen Actors Guild nominations with two wins; an AFI Award; four Writers Guild Award nominations, with one win; two BAFTA nominations; four Producers Guild Award nominations; two Directors Guild Award nominations; and a Peabody Award, among other accolades.
