Jeremy Clarkson takes on ITV Millionaire role

To mark the 20th anniversary of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire ITV is to screen a week of specials with former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson in the host seat.

“I have always loved the show and am thrilled to be involved with it’s re- birth. I’m a big fan of quiz shows and I’m looking forward to hosting this iconic TV show and hopefully making a few millionaires!” – Jeremy Clarkson

The iconic programme will be back on air later this spring with seven episodes broadcast every night on ITV.

The show will offer members of the public the chance to win £1,000,000. Each contestant will have the opportunity to answer 15 questions on their way to winning this life-changing prize, helped along the way by familiar lifelines of asking the audience, asking a friend and taking the 50:50 option. Plus there will be a number of new twists and turns for audiences to look forward to.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire burst onto ITV screens in 1998 with former ATV Midlands News and Tiswas host Chris Tarrant in the hot seat. It was two years later that the first millionaire was made on the show with Judith Keppel taking away the top prize with the question ‘Which king was married to Eleanor of Aquitaine‘.  In total across its run six contestants took home the million pound prize.

The show last aired in 2013 when Chris Tarrant decided to leave the series after fifteen successful years.

“It felt like a no-brainer to celebrate a show that was a trail blazer of its time and broke the mould. In doing this one off special week, I hope Millionaire will be introduced to a whole new generation. And with TV legend Jeremy Clarkson asking the questions, frankly, anything could happen. I can’t wait.” – Siobhan Greene, Head of Entertainment, ITV
