The beeb axes Robot Wars
The show is being dropped from BBC Two’s schedules a second time.
The BBC rebooted the series – which pitches amateur roboteers’ creations against each other – after a 12 year hiatus in 2016. It had last been seen on Channel 5 back in 2004, following runs on BBC Two between 1998-2003.
BBC News reports that the show is being dropped ‘to create room for new shows’.
“We are very proud of Robot Wars and would like to thank Mentorn Media, the presenters Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon, and all those involved in the last three series. However, in order to create room for new shows it won’t be returning to BBC Two.” – BBC Spokesperson
The announcement saw fans rally with the hashtag #BringBackRobotWars doing the rounds on social media.
Robot Wars was fronted by Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon in its latest incarnation. Previous presenters include Craig Charles and Philippa Forrester.
