BBC Scotland open River City set up for studio tours
Following the success of Coronation Street and Emmerdale tours, fans of BBC One Scotland’s River City will be able to visit Shieldinch once more in 2018.

BBC Scotland has announced they will be once more opening their doors and inviting fans of the long-running serial to join them at their Dumbarton studios for a River City tour. The River City Tours will take place in November and December this year with viewers able to see the internal studio sets and external exterior locations of the programme.
During the visit, fans will get the chance to walk through Montego Street and explore the front rooms of some of the show’s favourite characters. Tour patrons will also find out how television drama is put together and get the chance to take photos to remind them of their trip to Shieldinch. As the tours take place during a filming break, the cast of River City will not be present during the tours. Sometimes changes to the sets take place during the summer break so the beeb cannot always guarantee access to every set.

The tours will last approximately 1 hour 45 minutes and will involve a lot of walking.
Each tour can take up to 20 people, bookings for 15 and under may be made on the website but any larger groups should call the booking line. Please note that the minimum age for tour visitors is eight and the BBC can’t take any bookings which include children under that age for health & safety reasons. Any group booked for under 18s must have at least 4 accompanying adults. Bookings will be taken on October the 11th at the BBC Tours website.
The programme has also launched a merchandise store where t-shirts, pens and bags featuring River City branding and associated materials can be purchased for the first time at bbcrivercity.com. River City launched in 2002 as a twice weekly, half hour, soap opera. It currently airs at 8pm on Tuesdays in an hour-long format.
In August the show announced on social media actor Andy Gray has had to pull out of the forthcoming run due to medical reasons, Gray has received much praise for his portrayal of mental health issues in the programme in recent months.
The River City title comes from the River Clyde which flows through the city, and of course past Shieldinch.
