Stacey Dooley, Emma Willis and Mel Giedroyc join The One Show presenter line-up

The names will co-host the magazine series while regular presenter Alex Jones is on maternity leave.

Alex Jones has departed The One Show sofa to have her second child.

“I know The One Show will be in very capable hands while I’m on maternity leave and good luck to all the guest presenters – I hope they have as much fun as I do on the show.” – Alex Jones

BBC One have announced that various guest hosts will cover Alex Jones’ presenting duties on weekday evening magazine series The One Show whilst she is on maternity leave.

Stacey Dooley, Emma Willis and Mel Giedroyc are among the presenters standing in for Jones during her hiatus from the programme. They will join regular guest hosts Angellica Bell, Angela Scanlon and Michelle Ackerley. The Beeb also note that other guest presenters will be revealed as time goes on.

Matt Baker will continue to be covered by guest hosts on Fridays with the likes of Shane Richie, Joe Lycett, Rylan, Patrick Kielty, Amol Rajan and Ore Oduba.

“I’ll be back on the sofa in the autumn, but in the meantime, I plan on watching from my own sofa with little Teddy and the newest addition!” – Alex Jones

Chris Evans, Alex Jones and Matt Baker, The One Show’s regular hosts from 2010, Evans quit in 2015.

Alex Jones joined the show in 2010 alongside co-host Jason Manford. He quit after a brief spell on the sofa.

The confirmed co-host line up so far sees Angellica Bell in the hot seat from Monday 29th April for three weeks. Angela Scanlon joins the programme from Monday 20th May for two weeks and Monday 17th June for one week.

Emma Willis will co-host The One Show from Monday 3rd June for two weeks while Mel Giedroyc will be seen from Monday 24th June for one week. Stacey Dooley co-hosts from Monday 29th July for one week and Michelle Ackerley slips into Alex’s shoes from Monday 5th August for two weeks.

The One Show launched in 2006 with a four-week trial broadcast to see if there was an audience for a daily magazine programme. Airing on BBC One in the 7pm slot, against Emmerdale, the beeb launched the series from Birmingham with Adrian Chiles and Nadia Sawalha as hosts.

When the series returned in summer 2007 Myleene Klass replaced Sawalha. However the chemistry failed to ignite viewers and by the winter Christine Bleakley had joined Adrian Chiles as the ‘golden couple’.

Matt Smith and Alex Jones have been the regular faces of The One Show for almost a decade.

Infamous switch: Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley’s departure from The One Show for GMTV proved a ratings disaster – for ITV.

In 2010, both Chiles and Bleakley were lured to GMTV by ITV bosses who hoped to turn the fortunes around of their breakfast show with the personalities seen as figureheads of the new era. Eventually bosses decided to go even further with a new name and entirely new look for the slot. Daybreak launched in September 2010 but within two years both former One Show hosts had departed.

While that’s another story The One Show carried on with Friday presenter Chris Evans and Jason Manford as main host Monday to Thursday with Alex Jones hosting all five. Manford departed the programme following personal revelations only a few months into the winter 2010 series with Matt Baker, a regular guest-host, swiftly drafted in as the regular male presenter.

“I am looking forward to welcoming our guest hosts to The One Show who I am sure will do a brilliant job hosting and keeping Alex’s seat warm for her return.” – Sandy Smith, The One Show, Executive Editor
